Why an Air Purifier Might be a Good Idea

Every time you take a breath in your home, you’re inhaling millions of microscopic airborne contaminants. Some of these contaminants include dust, pollen, germs, mold spores, and dander. Normally, these contaminants are widespread enough that your body can easily defend against them. During the winter, though, people tend to seal their homes to make it easier to stay warm. When that happens, it makes it much more likely that you will experience the negative effects of those contaminants. Prolonged exposure to high enough levels of these contaminants can result in allergy attacks, flu, asthma, and a range of other health problems. The best way to handle these issues is to install an air purifier in your home.

Air Purifiers

There are a wide range of different air purifier types on the market, each designed to remove airborne contaminants from your air in a different way.

  • Air filters use a mesh to passively capture any contaminants that are carried into them by the air flow in the ducts. The filters are then cleaned or replaced every few months in order to remove the collected contaminants from the home.
  • Ionization purifiers use clouds of ions to draw contaminants out of the air. Once the contaminants have fallen to the bottom of the ducts, they can be swept or vacuumed out.
  • UV purifiers are basically large lightbulbs that give off high levels of ultraviolet light. Many different kinds of bacteria, viruses, and mold spores are phobic of UV light. They are sterilized or killed on contact with it.

These are just a few of the various air purifiers that can help you be healthier and more comfortable this winter.
