Beware of These Signs That You Have a Leak in Your Plumbing

Plumbing leaks are pretty difficult to detect under normal circumstances, which is a pretty big problem considering how much damage they can cause. When it comes to mitigating plumbing leaks, you really want to be able to detect them as soon as possible. So, how is a homeowner supposed to discover leaks early without professional training or equipment? Let’s take a look at some of the signs that you have a leak in your plumbing.

Rising Water Bills

You should always keep an eye on your monthly water bill, to make sure that it doesn’t suddenly spike on you. If it does go up significantly between one month and the next, and you haven’t been using that much more water, it’s possible that you have a leak in your plumbing system somewhere.

Check Your Water Meter

One very good way to tell if you have a leak in your home is to turn off every water appliance in your home, and then check your water meter. If your meter is still running, then water is still leaving the plumbing system somewhere, which means you have a leak.

Loss of Water Pressure

This one is typically the first sign that people notice. A loss of water pressure, whether sudden or gradual, is a definite sign that something is wrong with your plumbing system. It’s possible that you have a blockage in the system that’s restricting water flow, or a growing leak that’s dumping water out of the pipes before it can reach you. One way or the other, though, this isn’t a good sign. You should definitely call for repairs as soon as you notice this happening.
