There are a lot of possible issues that can afflict your air conditioner, most of which require professional services to be repaired. The best that you can do in those situations is call for repairs as soon as you notice the problem. There is one issue, though, that you can actually take care of yourself: changing the air filter.
Why You Should Change The AC Air Filter
The air filter protects the air conditioner from particulates of various kinds that are typically found in the home’s ducts. Things like dust, dirt, pollen, and the like can cause a variety of issues if they make it into the air conditioner, which is why the air filter is there. The filter needs to be changed every three months or so, though, or else it will become clogged. A clogged air filter will block most air from flowing into the air conditioner, cutting down on its output.
How to Change Your Air Filter
Fortunately, it’s easy to change your air filter. Have a look at the air return duct, which is the point at which the ductwork intersects with your air conditioner. There should be a valve or cover protecting the air filter. Open it and pull the old filter out, taking note of the direction the arrows on the rim of the filter are pointing. Slide the new air filter into place, making sure that the arrows are pointing in the same direction. Close the cover, and that’s it! Just make sure that you do that every few months to prevent the air filter from becoming clogged.
